My situation is as follows:

I had a wrongfull dismissal suit that i used a lawyer for. I obtained a settlement and received a W2 taking out taxes for the whole amount.

The company sent the proceeds (minus taxes) to the lawyer directly and he took out his gross fee (which I had paid tax on) and sent me the balance.

How would I report this on the return?

I qualified for long term disability for a 24 month period. However, after 6 months they paid a lump sum. I just found out this is taxable. It was under a cafeteria plan that I paid before tax was taken out. Would have been better if they had continued the monthly payments!

Where (if anywhere) should ministers who are SE exempt log the housing allowance portion of income on W2 or tax returns?

We were planning on giving our minister 1200 for a housing allowance. Should I give him two checks, one for his regrlar salary and one for housing allowance, or should we the religous affiliation pay the owner directly.
